Both varieties are made from the same stone: while one is cut along the grain, the other is obtained when cutting the block against the grain – a metamorphic conglomerate with a grey or green basic colour containing pebbles of various hues. The stone’s mineral hardness is comparable to that of granite.

Ita-Roca Company is a family enterprise founded in 1989 by geologist Cláudio Holanda – a long-standing consultant in the stone branch. Export is navigated via the port of Suape where stone can be transported as bulk cargo or in containers. This most modern port of the State of Pernambuco has a very high capacity. Thus allowing goods to be transported to the main hubs in Europe or North America in a mere 15 days.

In the recent past, the company enjoyed custom from France, Italy, Spain and Belgium with a turn-around to USA and Canada after the stone was worked there.
