A highly interesting market
(February 2010) Poland is one of Europe’s most vibrant markets, and one of its fastest growing. But that’s not all: geographically Poland is a bridgehead to East European countries. „Polish Stone Review“ takes a closer look at the stone market for exporters as well as for investors. Written by leading Polish economic experts and published by the trade publication Nowy Kamieniarz the essays are translated into English, Italian, Russian and German.
Among other topics the publication analyses the economic perspectives of this 38-million strong neighbour to Germany in the West, the Ukraine and Belarus and the Baltic States in the East and North, and last but not least, Czech Republic and Slovenia in the South.
During the years prior to the world wide economic crisis, Poland was able to hold a 6% steady growth rate and even so, the prognosis is 3% growth for 2010.
Poland’s economic boom is a result of this country’s efforts to catch up to its neighbours after years of neglect under the Communist Regime. Natural stone now finds its market not only in new shopping centres or airports. Private builders, too, have discovered its virtues and invest heavily.
The country is currently gearing up to host the 2012 Wold Cup together with the Ukraine.
But there’s another, cultural, niche for the stone branch in Poland: being staunchly Catholic, Polish citizens place great importance on a traditional burial. This translates into an enormous demand for gravestones, and, of late, the market has shown interest not only in traditional black and grey stones, but more colourful stones can now often be found in cemeteries as well.
„Polish Stone Review“ is structured in five segments. The first analyses the Polish building branch, the second reviews local stone types, and section three looks at the accoutrement and capacity of the various production sites. In segments four and five, insiders describe particularities of the Polish markets and the stipulations for founding a firm locally respectively.
The segments can be downloaded free of charge in all four languages.
